In Inferno, players are all Lost Ones, living beings forced to enter Hell for various reasons and to complete their journey to the Last Gate, the only exit, before losing their Hope.
The Lost Ones could be from any fantasy world or plane, and of course from our Earth. But when entering Hell, they appear with otherworldly physical features forged by their virtues and sins. They are alive, and they could stay alive during the whole journey, as Dante did. But the Inferno itself, with its demons, damned souls, and perils, will try to catch and enslave them.
So the main challenge of the Lost Ones is not to face and defeat the damned, but to hold fast to their path and their Hope during the voyage. They cannot die there; they cannot be defeated; they cannot lose the way to the Last Gate. But they may despair, fail, and be forever damned.
Dante's Guide to Hell, the full-color 186-page "Player's Handbook" for this complete D&D Fifth Edition campaign setting, presents character creation rules and options, setting rules, and a detailed description of the Inferno. The Guide to Hell explains why the PCs are in Hell, what they can do in this supernatural realm, and how to leave.
