The year is 1376, five years before the Peasants' Revolt. Half of England's people are dead from plague. You are a peasant among those who remain. And you're about to become an outlaw.
Gallows Corner – A Peasants' Revolt RPG is powered by hope, rage, and the unshakable belief everyday people can make a better world for all. Players are peasants and working-class people in an alt-historical medieval England. Outlawed from the crown's so-called justice, how will you survive? Who will you save? How will you change England for the better?
Dice pool system: Each player character has three Experience dice: Physical, Emotional, and Intellectual. Roll whichever die is relevant to the current situation. All you need is a single success, so more dice means a greater chance of victory.
Trades and jobs: Each character has a Trade, and chooses a Job within that Trade. Trades and Jobs add more dice to your Dice Pool, increasing your chances of success when a Test is related to your Trade or Job.
Retinue: Gallows Corner does away with traditional levelling systems. Instead, you gather followers to your Retinue. Retainers grant you opportunities to approach challenges in a variety of ways, have their own skills and backgrounds, and grant extra dice in combat. And, when the time comes, choose whether to let your character die and replace them with a Retainer, or let a Retainer take the killing blow in your place!
Point crawl (available in the full version of Gallows Corner): Explore every corner of England, and take the fight to the crown wherever you may be. Travel seamlessly between towns, villages, and counties in a world that adapts to your actions. Wrestle control away from the crown and help shape the places you liberate.
Visual combat system: Using diamond shapes, easily see the status of your character, retainers, and enemies.
This pay-what-you-want Quickstart Guide contains the game's full Core Rules, all eight Trades (and two of six Jobs for each of those Trades), character creation instructions, one of the game's eight regions (London), a selection of NPC entries and generators from "The English" section, and an introductory adventure, "A Spark Takes Hold."
