Old-School Essentials is an FRPG of fantastic adventure, peril, monsters, and magic. This game is a highly polished, 100% accurate restatement of the beloved 1981 Basic / Expert rules, with editing and layout tightly focused on ease of use during play. Presented in a clear, modern style, Old-School Essentials is quick to learn and easy to reference. This comprehensive Rules Tome gathers the full selection of character classes, equipment, magic, monsters, and treasures for running classic fantasy adventures.
A hole in an old oak tree leads curious characters down to a maze of twisting, root-riddled passageways – the chambers of an ancient wizard-complex – and the banks of an underground river where once a reptile cult built their temples. The Hole in the Oak presents a low-level adventure location in the classic vein – a small section of the Mythic Underworld, where the logic of the surface world recedes and magic and monsters abound. The adventure, suitable for character levels 1-2, is designed for Old-School Essentials, the classic Basic/ Expert rules, or similar old-school games. Join the White League, fight reptile cultists and heretic gnomes, meet Bozurah the Imperishable, and negotiate with an evil tree stump. The Hole in the Oak describes the first level of the dungeon, and it's easy to expand it with extra levels.
These .PDF panels, designed to be printed and inserted in the pockets of a four-panel landscape screen such as the DriveThruRPG Game Master Screen (landscape version), provide a quick reference to the most common rules and procedures needed to run Old-School Essentials or any other game based on the 1981 B/X rules. These attractively laid-out reference charts include a summary of character abilities, equipment list, master attack matrix, saving throw tables, combat rules summary and master movement rate table, and procedures for many kinds of encounters. This .PDF also includes high-resolution artwork – an Old-School-style four-panel painting by Peter Mullen.
These 21 pregenerated Old-School Essentials player characters include seven characters of each alignment (lawful, neutral, chaotic), and three characters of each class (cleric, dwarf, elf, fighter, halfling, magic-user, thief). The elegant one-page layout puts everything players need – statistics, rules summaries, equipment, and character background – on a single page. Perfect for use in one-shots or for introducing new players to the game, these characters are also great for use as hirelings or rival NPC parties.
Characters are presented in a dual-Armor Class format for use with either Ascending AC or Descending AC options.
